Home Secretary Alan Johnson has today purportedly stated that it would be a "no brainer" not to obtain one of the proposed new identity cards. These will not be compulsory. What would be a no brainer Mr Johnson, is for anyone to risk giving personal and sensitive information to any Government Department. Discs of highly confidential information have been lost in offices and on route between offices via courier companies, briefcases containing highly sensitive documents have been left on trains and the wife of the incoming head of MI6 Sir John Sawers thought nothing of splattering information about her family all over Facebook. Does Mr Johnson honestly believe any sane person in this county would provide the government with any information they did not legally have to provide?
